‘The Gentlemen’ Trailer: Guy Ritchie Returns To His Roots

After making a billion-dollar success with Disney’s remake of “Aladdin,” Guy Ritchie is returning to his roots of British hooligans, snappy humor and lots of violence with a fresh new trailer for his new gritty crime-comedy “The Gentlemen.”

Having released the first trailer earlier this fall, we now get a better look at Matthew McConaughey and Henry Golding’s characters in this crime-comedy about the exploits of an American expat in London who is running a successful wee-selling operation. This is very clearly not a sequel to “The Beach Bum,” even if we easily buy Moondog having a twin brother in England.

The film teases a lot of fast-talking, blackmail, backstabbing and plenty of laughs. After delivering big-budget remakes like “Sherlock Holmes” and “Aladdin,” fans of Guy Ritchie may be pleased to see him return to scene-chewing actors in funny capers that made his earlier crime films like “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” or “Snatch” work so well.

“The Gentlemen” also features Hugh Grant (“Four Weddings and a Funeral“), Colin Farrell (“Horrible Bosses”), Charlie Hunnam (“Pacific Rim”), Michelle Dockery (“Downton Abbey”), Jeremy Strong (“The Judge”) and Henry Golding (“Crazy Rich Asians”). The film is also being distributed by STX.

Here is the official synopsis:

From writer/director Guy Ritchie comes THE GENTLEMEN, a star-studded sophisticated action comedy. THE GENTLEMEN follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him (featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant).

“The Gentlemen” lands in theaters on January 24, 2020. Watch the new trailer below.
