While “Star Wars” has become a bit of a minefield for people hoping to have a rational discussion, there is one thing that most fans of the franchise can agree on — John Williams is fucking incredible. And with that in mind, we’d like to make sure that everyone knows that Williams’ amazing score for ‘The Last Jedi’ gets centerstage in a version of the film that is now available to Disney+ subscribers.
Those who already own the digital copy and/or Blu-ray versions of Rian Johnson’s ‘The Last Jedi’ have had access to this score-only version of the film, but those who only have Disney+ are now able to stream the controversial film in a version that seemingly eliminates all that dialogue that fans have debated for more than two years (via DiscussingFilm).

Will a score-only version of ‘The Last Jedi’ fix all the “issues” that fans have had with the film? Likely no, as the action is still visible, including all those Luke Skywalker moments that seems to infuriate so many purists, such as the throwing of the lightsaber in the opening moments, the drinking of the colorful milk straight from the source, as well as the final act with the hero going full-on Force Ghost to take on Kylo Ren’s army. But hey, all those images are drowned out by the beautiful tones of John Williams’ lovely score.
Obviously, for those who don’t have any strong feelings towards ‘The Last Jedi,’ then this is a version work watching just as a cinephile that wants to appreciate some of the work turned in by a master at his craft. And despite what some fans might say, Johnson turned in a beautiful film to accompany a great score, so it’ll be pleasurable to both eyes and ears.

This release of the film also continues to show how Disney+ is willing to include a ton of special features with their releases, which is something that Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and other streamers have yet to fully adopt. If you’re a “Star Wars” fan, there are documentaries, deleted scenes, commentaries, and all sorts of goodies that accompany the streaming films on the subscription service.
Hopefully, the score-only version of ‘The Last Jedi’ proves to be popular and will lead to score-only versions of other films appearing on Disney+ in the future.
