'The Green Knight' Trailer: Devl Patel Leads A King Arthurian Adventure

Any movie lover knows that A24 is an indie film wonderland. The production company has put out such gems as the Oscar-winning “Moonlight,” “Room” and Florence Pugh’s star-making turn in “Midsommar.” Next on A24’s docket is “The Green Knight.” And A24 is going way back to the 14th century for this one.

A24 is not afraid to make bold choices. What other production company would take on a manic film about two lighthouse keepers or a dramatic Adam Sandler vehicle? Well, “The Green Knight” is an out-of-left-field choice, even for them. It is a medieval fantasy film based on the poem, Sir Gaiwin and the Green Knight. There’s not a lot known about the original poem, except that it was written by an anonymous, 14th-century British poet. Only one copy of the poem survives to this day.

Dev Patel plays Sir Gaiwin, the nephew of King Arthur. The film, directed by “A Ghost Story” director David Lowery, follows Patel’s Sir Gaiwin as he embarks on a quest to confront a gigantic and green-skinned knight. It’s shaping up to be a sprawling epic fantasy adventure. And with A24 at the helm, there’s bound to be some interesting twists along the way.

The cast also includes Joel Edgerton as Lord, Alicia Vikander as Lady/Esel and Sean Harris (“Mission Impossible: Fallout”).
