If you have Apple TV+ and haven’t watched the critically acclaimed anthology series “Little America,” make it a priority in your binge list. Based on a collection of real-life stories published in Epic Magazine, the eight-part program chronicles unexpected stories of first-generation immigrants in the United States. It’s the brainchild of executive producers Lee Eisenberg, Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon and the latter two joined the Four Quadrant podcast last week to discuss there Emmy-worthy show.

“Little America” is remarkable for a number of reasons. First off, it’s the best New Jersey for Uganda, Oklahoma, Utah, and Louisville that you could imagine (the final episode of the season was shot in Canada for visa reasons). Second, not only are the eight directors recruited to helm each episode inspired choices individually but together they constitute one of the most diverse and international group of filmmakers ever assembled for one season of a series. And third, the show manages to have genuine heart without pulling at the heartstrings in obvious ways. And much of that is thanks to Eisenberg, Nanjiani, and Gordon’s influence.
The pair, whose romance was depicted in “The Big Sick,” talk about the difficulties in getting the relatively low budget series made, the prospects of shooting season two, their pandemic habits, a quick quiz on what a “General” is in the industry, their longing for restaurants and Nanjiani provides the only answer to an “Eternals” question he can without getting a stern phone call from Marvel Studios.
