Has there been a fall from grace quite as big as that of Tomas Alfredson? After making two incredible films in “Let The Right One In” and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” the Swedish director followed up with the catastrophic yer very meme-able disaster “The Snowman.” Now, Alfredson is hoping to make a comeback with “Se upp för Jönssonligan,” the reboot of a popular Swedish film franchise.

“Se upp för Jönssonligan” follows a group of quirky criminals, including an alcoholic explosions expert — hoping to complete their next big heist. The franchise was extremely popular in the ’80s when it debuted, and already received one reboot in 2015. The films are based on an equally popular Danish franchise titled “Olsen-banden.”
Alfredson’s new take on the franchise seems to be a higher-budget heist on a Swedish skyscraper, without forgetting the slapstick humor that made the film series iconic. The film brings the gang’s leader, Charles Jönsson released from prison to find his teammates leaving crime behind. But, of course, things are never that simple, and Charles will soon head out for one last ride.
The film is headlined by popular Swedish comedians Henrik Dorsin and Anders Johansson, as well as David Sundin and Hedda Stiernstedt.
“Se upp för Jönssonligan” is scheduled to be released in Swedish theaters this Christmas.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
“After an unsuccessful coup, Charles Ingvar ‘Sickan’ Jönsson ends up in prison. When he is released, the teammates in the Jönsson league have become honest and Sickan can continue on his own. Crime broker Anita gives him a simple burglary as an assignment, but the whole thing turns out to be much bigger than Sickan thinks. Now he needs his old accomplices to carry out the most difficult coup in the league’s history.”
