Even though Tig Notaro and Chris D’Elia are both stand-up comedians, the comparisons end right there. D’Elia’s brand of humor is completely different from Notaros, not to mention the completely opposite physical statures of both. However, the comedians’ differences don’t seem to be much of an issue for Zack Snyder, who has reportedly recast Notaro to fill the role D’Elia originally played in the forthcoming “Army of the Dead.”

According to THR, Snyder has brought in Tig Notaro to take the place of Chris D’Elia in the upcoming zombie action film, “Army of the Dead.” But the difficulty comes with the fact that Snyder and his cast and crew already finished filming the feature in late-2019. However, with allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment with underage women against D’Elia, the filmmaker is going above and beyond to ensure the actor is replaced by Notaro in the finished product.
The report claims that Snyder is readying a quick round of reshoots that will allow for Notaro to replace D’Elia in the film and seamlessly be inserted into the feature. However, since the cast for the film has dispersed and there are now severe COVID-19 restrictions on filming, Snyder and his crew are going to have to be clever in how they insert Notaro, utilizing a mixture of real filming with available actors and digital trickery.
Outside of lead, Dave Bautista, and, now, Notaro, “Army of the Dead” also features Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win. As mentioned, the film is written and directed by Zack Snyder and marks the filmmaker’s first feature since 2017’s “Justice League” and his first zombie film since his breakout, “Dawn of the Dead,” back in 2004.
The film is currently in post-production and an exact release date has yet to be announced. Though, given Netflix’s track record, that doesn’t mean much, as the studio doesn’t normally reveal a date until about a month or two before it hits the streamer. So, who knows? Maybe we could see this before the end of the year, still.
