Whenever you hear about a famous meeting of the minds, many people will say they wish they were a fly on the wall to listen in to what was being said. So, when you find out that Dennis Hopper and Orson Welles had a marathon chat, during the production of “The Other Side of the Wind,” about everything film, as well as religion, sex, politics, and culture, in general, who wouldn’t want to eavesdrop? Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about traveling in time and sneaking into the discussion, thanks to the upcoming doc, “Hopper/Welles.”

In honor of “Hopper/Welles” arriving at Venice, we’re thrilled to give our readers an exclusive look at the new poster for the doc that shines a spotlight on two of the most recognizable names in film history. The documentary — digitally restored from the original 16mm elements by the Warsaw-based post-production house Fixafilm — is the result of hours of footage from when Orson Welles met Dennis Hopper for the first time. The two men met during the production of the aforementioned Welles film and occurred right on the heels of Hopper’s legendary debut film, “Easy Rider.” Clearly, this discussion happened at a crucial time in the careers of both men (one on the tail end of his dominance, while the other just begun), as well as a turning point in the film industry.
The poster was designed by Tony Stella and is a beautiful piece of art in its own right. Obviously, when you’re talking about two powerhouse figures in the history of the film industry, you better make sure the poster looks good, and this one most certainly does, capturing the look of Hopper and Welles but not in some modern, overly Photoshopped way. Hell, this is a much better piece of art than what adorns the walls of many film fans nowadays.
“Hopper/Welles” is set to debut as part of this year’s Venice Film Festival. Obviously, for those of us not able to attend, we’ll be anxiously awaiting a full international release of the documentary.
You can see the full poster below, as well as a clip from the film.
