Scott Cooper To Write & Direct True-Crime Drama Series 'Angels & Demons'

In a non-pandemic alternate universe, we’d be six months removed from the release of Scott Cooper’s highly-anticipated horror film, “Antlers.” However, this isn’t that idyllic world and the pandemic forced the studio to push “Antlers” until 2021. So, sadly, we have months still to wait and see what the filmmaker has up his sleeve. But that doesn’t mean Cooper is slowing down anytime soon, as it’s been revealed that he’s about to leap over to TV for a new true-crime drama series.

According to Deadline, Black Bear Television has landed Scott Cooper to write and direct all the episodes of an upcoming crime thriller series, “Angels & Demons.” The series takes the true-crime story of three women that were found dead in the shallow waters outside of Tampa Bay. The crimes were committed back in 1989 and were traced back to the serial killer, Oba Chandler.

Obviously, given Cooper’s previous work, dealing with death and murder isn’t uncharted territory for the filmmaker. He’s probably best known for his features such as “Black Mass,” “Hostiles,” and “Out of the Furnace.” He broke out with his directorial debut, “Crazy Heart,” back in 2009. In addition to his upcoming work on “Angels & Demons,” his next project is set to be an adaptation of the horror novel, “Head Full of Ghosts,” which already has Margaret Qualley attached to star.

With true-crime continuing to be a huge genre for streamers and TV networks, it’s obvious that there won’t be much trouble to find a distribution partner for “Angels & Demons.” Add to it the fact that Cooper is aboard to write and direct all the episodes, and this series has already launched into the most anticipated TV series list.
