Though “Palmer” might not be the most surprising film you’ll see, there is a lot going on. And that’s perfectly evident in the newly released trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ original film.
First, you have Justin Timberlake in the lead role, which is not the most common occurrence. Then there’s the story about a man coming back to his hometown after leaving a star athlete and eventually becoming a criminal. We’ve seen that before. Add to that the fact that there’s a little boy that is now facing life in the foster system after he’s abandoned by his mom. Yeah, we’ve seen that too. But the extra added wrinkle to this whole thing is the story of that young boy, who is also pushing the boundaries of gender identity, which when you add that to the whole picture makes “Palmer” more unique than you might have first realized. And that’s probably exactly why the trailer for “Palmer” feels like there’s a lot going on. That’s because there is a lot going on in what seems like a deceptively simple premise.
The film stars Timberlake alongside Ryder Allen, Juno Temple, June Squibb, and Alisha Wainwright. “Palmer” is the first live-action acting role for Timberlake since Woody Allen’s 2017 feature, “Wonder Wheel.” Fisher Stevens directs the Apple drama. His most recent film is the documentary, “And We Go Green,” from 2019.
