The ongoing pandemic has caused major shutdowns and delays in both production and release for many big film projects. We didn’t get a single Marvel film in 2020, even if they now plan to release four new films as well as several TV shows in 2021, but according to Marvel Studios head honcho, Kevin Feige, Phase Four of the MCU has not been affected by the pandemic.
Speaking with The New York Times, Feige explained that the upcoming Marvel projects “had not been significantly affected,” but recognized things would have been different a couple of years ago. “If the run we had in 2018 and 2019 had gotten disrupted this way, in the buildup to ‘Endgame,’ it would have been a bigger headache,” Feige said. “With these projects, it worked well,” and added that the debut dates for the upcoming Marvel TV shows were shifted only “by a matter of weeks.”
As of now, Marvel is coming back with a vengeance in 2021. In addition to “WandaVision,” this month, we’ll also get “Black Widow” on May 7, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” on July 9, “Eternals” set to be released on November 5, and a “Spider-Man: Far From Home” sequel set to swing to theaters on December 17. Joining “WandaVision” on the TV side, we’re getting “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Loki,” and the animated show “What if?“
If you thought having three Marvel movies a year was too little, then you might be happy to see the upcoming flood of superhero properties coming in 2021. Meanwhile, “Thor: Love and Thunder” is currently filming in Australia.
