Kevin Feige (Thankfully) Doesn't See A Reason Why 'Star Wars' & Marvel Should Ever Crossover

With the emergence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the premier film franchise of the past decade-plus (honestly, you could argue it’s the greatest film franchise of all time, in terms of size, scope, box office, and other metrics), many have joked that Kevin Feige would find some way to mix his love of superheroes with his well-documented love of “Star Wars.” They’re both owned by Disney, right? And Feige can pretty much do whatever he wants. So, why not bring some laser swords into the world of capes?

Well, speaking to Yahoo, Feige was asked that very same question. Basically, does he foresee any way that the worlds of “Star Wars” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe could crossover? And even though he’s quick to say something akin to “never say never,” the reality of the situation makes it seem more like a pipedream than anything really feasible.

“If you’d ask me if anything we’re talking about right now was in the realm of possibility 20 years ago, I would’ve said, ‘I don’t think so,’” Feige teased. “But I really don’t think so. I don’t think there’s any reason for it.”

So, if you’re one of those fans that are crazy enough to think Luke Skywalker and Captain America need to meet, or there should be a team-up between the Hulk and Chewbacca, your dreams have been shattered. And let’s be real, that’s the type of ridiculous idea that belongs in fan-fiction somewhere in the recesses of the internet than in a $200 million film. That said, if you do have well-written stories that combine Spider-Man and Poe Dameron, then I’m ready to read it.

And for the people that are highly cynical and just assume that Disney is going to milk every franchise and IP for all their worth and eventually run out of ideas, leading to this “Star Wars”/Marvel meet-up, then you don’t have to be that pessimistic about the state of the film industry. At least not right now. Let’s see what happens in another 20 years, okay?
