Sci-fi films are a great way for creative folks to predict what might happen in the future, using evidence from what is going on right now. With that in mind, knowing what is evident on TikTok, let’s hope “Voyagers” is a cautionary tale for why we don’t entrust the future of the human race on a bunch of hormonal teens. (I’m only partially joking because that makes me sound incredibly old, but also, have you seen TikTok? I’ve seen enough cringe on that app to become worried about the future of our species.)
“Voyagers” tells the story of the distant future where young men and women are bred for intelligence and obedience so that they could be chosen to go on a mission in space. The mission is critical to the future of humanity, as these young people will attempt to colonize a distant planet. The only problem is the kids quickly realize something isn’t right and decide they’d be better served to party and fight each other.
Tye Sheridan and Lily-Rose Depp lead the cast of this sci-fi thriller that also stars Fionn Whitehead, Chanté Adams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Viveik Kalra, Archie Madekwe, Quintessa Swindell, Madison Hu, and Colin Farrell. “Voyagers” is written and directed by Neil Burger, who is best known for films such as “The Illusionist,” “Limitless,” “Divergent,” and “The Upside,” as well as directing multiple episodes of “Billions.”
“Voyagers” is set to arrive in theaters on April 9. You can watch the trailer below.
