The “Enchanted” sequel, titled “Disenchanted,” is finally moving forward, as James Marsden and Idina Menzel are both confirmed to be reprising their roles, alongside returning Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey.

“Disenchanted” was only just confirmed last year during the 2020 Disney Investor Day, confirming that Adams would return for the sequel. Now, in a live stream with JLGB Virtual (via Collider), composer Alan Menken confirmed he’s not only working on writing new music for the Disney+ sequel, but revealed that both Marsden and Menzel are coming back.
“Amy Adams is in it. Patrick is in it. Idina Menzel is in it. James Marsden — they’re in it,” Menken said during the live stream after a rendition of his Oscar-nominated song “That’s How You Know.” The composer also said that the film is “really good,” and more importantly, said that “it’s filming” now.
Though Disney has been working on a sequel to its Oscar-nominated live-action/animation hybrid for years, with reports that Amy Adams would reprise her role as Giselle, the fairy tale princess lost in New York since at least 2016. It wasn’t until earlier this year that Patrick Dempsey confirmed his return as Giselle’s love interest, but other than that we still had no idea what the film would be about or what other cast members would return.
“Enchanted” remains one of the best Disney films of the past decade, and it did well at the box office, which only makes it weird that it’s taken this long for the sequel to start production. The sequel is set 10 years after the formerly animated Disney princess Giselle decides to stay in live-action New York at the end of the first film.
