One of the breakout films from last year’s festival circuit is finally hitting theaters and VOD this week. And to celebrate the release of “Shiva Baby,” the distributor has decided to unveil a new “trashy trailer” focused on the NSFW parts of the film.

Instead of focusing on reviews from media outlets, which were already overwhelmingly positive, the new trailer decides to focus on social media responses to the film. To give you an idea of the response, one tweet featured called the film “‘Uncut Gems’ for hot Jewish sluts,” while another said it was “better than the ‘Godfather’ trilogy.” While the film is solid and the first tweet does make a bit of sense, the second one is a bit of a stretch.
“Shiva Baby” stars Rachel Sennott, Molly Gordon, Diana Agron, Danny Deferrari, Polly Draper, and Fred Melamed. Emma Seligman makes her feature writing and directorial debut in the comedy, which is based on her own short film of the same name.
In our review of “Shiva Baby,” we said, “All in all, ‘Shiva Baby’ is a savagely smart comedy that dives deep into excruciating embarrassment. It’s a marvel and will pull you to the end of your seat, biting your nails in second-hand cringe.”
“Shiva Baby” hits select theaters and VOD on April 2. You can watch the new “trashy trailer” for the film below.
