Instead of Christmas in July, Netflix has instead opted to celebrate Halloween early this year with its release of the “Fear Street Trilogy” by Leigh Janiak (2014’s ‘Honeymoon‘). With “Part One: 1994” kicking things off July 2, the following parts of the trilogy premiere over the next two Fridays. That’s welcome news to horror hounds and fans of R.L. Stine‘s original book series and an epic summer movie event in its own right.
Obviously, “Part Two: 1978” picks up where “Part One: 1994” left off in the “Fear Street” saga. The films follow a group of teens in Shadyside who discover that the terrifying events of their hometown’s history may all be linked and that they may be the next targets.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Part Two: 1978”:

Shadyside, 1978. School’s out for summer, and the activities at Camp Nightwing are about to begin. But when another Shadysider is possessed with the urge to kill, the fun in the sun becomes a gruesome fight for survival.
Each film in the “Fear Street Trilogy” focuses on a particular year in Shadyside’s history, along with a horror sub-genre to complement that era in cinematic horror. From the looks of things, “Part Two: 1978” will follow the trends of slashers at summer camps.
The film stars Sadie Sink (‘Stranger Things‘), Emily Rudd (‘The Romanoffs‘), Ryan Simpkins (‘Brigsby Bear‘), McCabe Slye (‘Destroyer‘), and Ted Sutherland (‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond‘). Gillian Jacobs (‘North Hollywood‘), Kiara Madeira (‘Trinkets‘), Ben Flores Jr. (‘Your Honor‘), Olivia Scott Welch (‘Shithouse‘), and Chiara Aurelia (‘Cruel Summer‘) round out the main cast.
Janiak, who’s behind the camera for all three of the “Fear Street” films, co-writes “Part Two: 1978” with Zak Olkewicz. Marco Beltrami provides music for the film with Anne Drubich.
