There are probably quite a few women around the world that would fantasize about being transported to a play where females are in control and the men are pawns in their own little game. That’s the world of “Mayday,” but things aren’t as great as they might seem.
With “Mayday” arriving everywhere this week, we’re thrilled to give our readers a chance to see an exclusive clip from the upcoming feature. The film follows the story of Ana, an unhappy young woman that finds herself mysteriously transported to an alternate reality where she joins up with a group of militant women who lure men to their deaths off the coast of a mysterious land. However, as the clip shows, while this might be an idyllic situation, Ana finds herself at odds with her new group of compatriots.
The cast for the film includes Grace Van Patten, Mia Goth, Soko, Havana Rose Liu, Juliette Lewis, and Théodore Pellerin. “Mayday” is written and directed by Karen Cinorre, making her feature debut with the film.

In our review of the film, from this year’s Sundance Film Festival, we compared the film to recent Oscar-winning film, “Promising Young Woman” and said, “Karen Cinorre’s Sundance directorial debut, ‘Mayday,’ is a euphoric, escapist fantasy meditating on many of the same retreat and reprisal notions, but thankfully, unpacks them with much more lowkey nuance, longing, and dreamy, emotional resonance.”
“Mayday” is being released on October 1. You can watch the exclusive clip from the film below.
Here’s the synopsis:
In director Karen Cinorre’s bold new action fantasy film MAYDAY, Ana (Grace Van Patten) finds herself transported to a dreamlike and dangerous coastline. Once there, she joins a female army engaged in a never-ending war where the women lure men to their deaths with radio signals, like 20th-century sirens. Though Ana finds strength in this exhilarating world, she comes to realize she is not the killer they want her to be.
