Following its big win at the 2021 Berlin Film Festival, where it won the Golden Bear top prize, the Romanian comedy-drama film, “Bad Luck Banging Or Loony Porn,” written and directed by Radu Jude, has been a big hit wherever it screened. By all accounts, a playful and sometimes uncomfortable film, ‘Bad Luck Banging,’ stars Katia Pascariu, as a schoolteacher who finds her reputation sullied and under threat after a personal sex tape is uploaded onto the internet. The movie also stars Claudia Ieremia, Olimpia Malai, and Nicodim Ungureanu, and it’s been described as a film that employs a potentially prurient premise to highlight the hypocrisy of societal norms.
We raved about the film at the New York Film Festival earlier this year, our critic Mark Asch, describing the picture as “a film of nihilistic hilarity and total structural abandon, invoking Ludwig Wittgenstein and PornHub in practically the same breath.” It’s 91% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and pretty much universally acclaimed as one of the most interesting films of the year.
