As mentioned, the fact that Cannes is going to welcome a popcorn blockbuster isn’t all that shocking. And this is a great time for ‘Maverick’ to debut, as it will help promote a film that has been riddled with delays thanks to the COVID pandemic. The film was originally set to hit theaters in July 2019 but was delayed initially due to creative reasons. Then, the pandemic hit, pushing the film all the way until May 27, 2022. Needless to say, fans have been waiting an awfully long time to see if the sequel will actually live up to its iconic predecessor.

The Cannes Film Festival is set to begin on May 17.
