Truth To The Anne Hathaway 'Spidey 4' Rumors? Hathaway Speaks!

R.I.P. “Spider-Man 4.” We missed out on a chance to see a nearing-40 Tobey Maguire play college-age Peter Parker once more, and John Malkovich ham it up as the Vulture. And sadly we’ll also never get a feature-length apology from Sam Raimi regarding “Spider-Man 3.” But did we also miss a chance to see Anne Hathaway as either villainess Black Cat, or perhaps something called the Vultress?

During her recent press rounds for “Alice In Wonderland,” MTV took the opportunity to ask the star about what would have happened had the project taken shape. “I don’t know how to answer that, because it’s not really happening anymore,” she tells MTV, adding, “so, it’s best to leave it in the past.” Which is exactly what our ex-girlfriends tend to say when their families ask about us, but we digress.

Were there no truth to the rumors, she would have passed them off as poppycock, no? She would have said, “Bah, that was never going to happen! How ludicrous!” Maybe she wasn’t involved in any way, but if so, what is this “past” she speaks of? Perhaps she’s speaking in code! Perhaps she’s referencing her secret role in the new Spider-Man adventure as being part of Spidey’s past, and that the new film is actually a prequel, or even involves time travel!

Or, more than likely, producers talked to every actress within her age range in Hollywood about possibly accepting an undefined lead female role in the proposed film without ever locking down a deal. Despite Ms. Hathaway’s handling of the issue, consider this a non-story for now.
