IFC Doesn't, In Fact, Have The Rights To Spike Jonze's 'I'm Here'

Whoops. When IFC announced a couple of days back that they’d secured the rights to broadcast Spike Jonze’s Absolut Vodka-sponsored 30 minute short film “I’m Here,” it seems they forgot to check with, you know, Jonze’s agents.

CAA, who rep the director, say that they’re still negotiating with various buyers to pick up the digital and broadcast rights to the film (as the film’s official site claims that it’ll be available there in March, we imagine “digital rights” refers to download, rather than streaming). Could that mean iTunes? They were the ones that officially put out Jonze’s last short with Kanye West, “We Were Once A Fairy Tale,” so a pre-existing relationship is already in place.

The short stars Andrew Garfield and Sienna Guillory, and focuses on a love story between two robots, heavily influenced by Shel Silverstein’s children’s book “The Giving Tree.” We can’t wait, and, man, when was the last time a short film got this much attention? The raves at Sundance were near ecstatic. More to follow, we’re sure…
