When it rains it pours with soundtrack related news. “17 Again,” with Zac Efron is “BIG” with Tom Hanks all over again only in reverse. How many times can they milk this concept and flip it? How much time you got?
“Zac Efron stars in this age-defying comedy, produced by Hairspray director Adam Shankman. Efron stars as the teenage version of Mike O’Donnell, a middle-aged father (played by Matthew Perry) who wakes up to find he’s seventeen again and decides to enroll in school to see what his kids’ lives are like as one of their peers.”
According to every online source in the universe, the soundtrack comes out April 21. According to Amazon the soundtrack will feature songs by Spoon, Cat Power, The Kooks, The Duke Spirit. More details to follow with a tracklist, we’re sure.
Is this where we suggest perhaps both Spoon and Cat Power are becoming soundtrack whores? Or do we do it in another piece? Spoon are everywhere and in every film these days. They weren’t on the “I Love You, Man” soundtrack, but they were in the film and if it’s an innocuous comedy you bringing, chances are Britt Daniels will be involved somehow. And Cat Power, we love Chan Marshall, but her choices have been suspect of late (Cingular and DeBeers jewllery ads?) The Duke Spirit are not bad, so they get a pass here. They’re probably just trying to put food on the table, no doubt.
The film was originally supposed to release August 15, 2008, but was pushed back to February 20, 2009, and again to April 17, 2009. Make of that what you will.
