“Slumdog Millionaire” composer A.R. Rahman is no fool. He might be Bollywood’s Michael Jackson or P.Diddy (however you wanna slice that), but he knows being the biggest composer for India’s film industry is sort of akin to to being the most popular Hollywood Squares, or at least, as far as North American audiences are concerned.
So he’s wasting no time teaming-up with Western world names and film projects now that ‘Slumdog’ is poised to clean up at the Oscars, right? Sort of, not really.
According to the NME (who also calls him “Rachman”), Rahman is working on a new film project with diminutive British singer Kylie Minogue. “We’re doing a song together which she’ll perform in the movie,” he said. “The film is called ‘Blue’ and is being shot in Hawaii and a lot of other places.”
Though one could assume Minogue’s participation makes this a British or American film project, but nope, it’s yet another Bollywood film. “Blue” stars Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif and is an underwater thriller that features three friends searching for lost treasure in the deep blue sea. It’s also reportedly one of the most expensive Bollywood films ever made with a budget rumored to be around $28 million.
Who says everyone sells out the first chance they get? Relatively of course. Oh, btw, Rahman told the BBC that performing via bed isn’t M.I.A.’s only option if she wants to appear at the Oscars. They could also have her appear by hologram. Damn, those crazy Oscars!
