Even though “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” topped the box office the weekend, the Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and CinemaScore grades for the film were all down from the first entry in the new series. This afternoon, we broke down all the ways Marc Webb’s film went wrong (and few things it got right), but one fan is taking his displeasure a bit further.
Some guy in India named Muhesh Spaleesh has started a petition at Change.org calling for a director’s cut of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” one that is based on the presumption of completed scenes existing that were cut from the movie. Well, we do know that Shailene Woodley‘s brief scenes as Mary Jane Watson were axed very early on, and curiously, of the scenes Spaleesh is requesting, that’s not one of them. Instead he wants more dubstep action, more Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (because who doesn’t) and an Oscorp sequence that again, might not exist. Anyway, here’s a bit of what Splaleesh had to say and what he wants put back in or added:
Unfortunately, the film is getting a lot of hate from critics worldwide, as we can see from the Rotten Tomatoes Score.
In particular, we have seen complaints commonly arise, such as a “disjointed narrative” and a “lack of character development”.
I think, as polarising as the film is, we can all agree as fans that a directors cut of the film would be incredibly benificial to the franchise.
Some of the scenes rumoured to be in rough cuts but left out in the the final cut shown in cinemas everywhere are;
An attack on Oscorp by the Green Goblin
An alternate scene in which a tumultuous scene is portrayed differently
Extended Times Square and Clocktower scenes
Another Peter/Gwen scene.
Would those scenes, if they are even real, make the movie better? We kinda doubt it. The problem with “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is that it’s a mash-up of various themes and tones that never come together. More stuff isn’t going to solve that. But hey, doesn’t hurt to try, we suppose. [MovieWeb]
