Well, it didn’t take long for details about Sean Penn‘s next directorial effort to come together, and he’s lining up a killer cast. With Adele Exarchapoulos and Charlize Theron lining up roles in the past couple days, one more puzzle piece has been sorted out.
Javier Bardem has been added to the film, now apparently called “The Last Face” not “The Last Space,” with the Erin Dignam penned script following “a talented and charismatic doctor (Bardem) who is forced to choose between his love for an American relief worker (Theron) or his dedication to saving lives in war-torn African nations.” The “Blue Is The Warmest Color” star will play a journalist and this all sounds Very Important, but that cast is pretty undeniable. The production will film in Africa this summer. [Variety]
Adrien Brody has joined Salma Hayek and Shohreh Aghdashloo in the adaptation of Dalia Sofer‘s “The Septembers Of Shiraz.” Wayne Blair, last behind the camera for “The Sapphires,” will direct this “true story of a secular Jewish family caught in the Islamic revolution in Iran, and their journey to overcome and ultimately escape from the deadly tyranny that swept their country and threatened to extinguish their lives at every turn.” [Deadline]
Speaking of Salma Hayek, she’s boarded the animated “Sausage Party.” From the filthy minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, she joins the already extensive voice cast (Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, Edward Norton, and David Krumholtz) in this story of a sausage who falls out of a shopping cart and must make it back to the store shelf in time for the Fourth of July sale. Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan direct the film that will drop next year. [Deadline]
Lastly, Terrence Howard has joined the Vince Vaughn thriller “Term Life.” The movie follows an ex-con who is wanted dead, who takes out a life insurance policy to care for his daughter, only to learn it doesn’t take effect for 21 days. Hailee Steinfeld co-stars. [Deadline]
