“Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” the adaptation of the Canadian comic book is shooting in just a few moths so casting announcements are being made furiously. Indie comic Aubrey Plaza and Kieran Culkin joined the cast last week and over the weekend, Chris Evans and Ellen Wong joined the fold.
Today the actor whose primary existence is to wait around for another “Superman” movie Brandon Routh took time away from sitting by the phoneline dedicated to Warner Bros. to join the Pilgrim cast. Brie Larson (“The United States Of Tara”) has also joined the cast, Mark Webber (“The Hottest State”) and Alison Pill (“Milk”) have also come aboard.
The fantastical and teen-angsty ‘Pilgrim centers on a slacker who chases after the girl of his dreams, but has to thwart and battling seven of her evil ex-boyfriends all of whom possess special powers.
Michael Cera stars and Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays the object of his affection. Evans and Routh play two of the evil boyfriends (#2 and #3 respectively), and Plaza and Larson both play Cera’s ex girlfriends. Also joining the cast are lesser-known actors Mae Whitman (yet another -ex, she played Ann Veal on “Arrested Development,” her??), Anna Kendrick (Pilgrim’s sister), and Webber and Pill plays members of Pilgrim’s band and Johnny Simmons plays their biggest fan. Satya Bhabha is yet another evil boyfriend.
Edgar Wright (“Hot Fuzz,” “Shaun of the Dead”) is directing and the project is set to go before the cameras in April. He’s currently in Toronto freezing his ass off (see pic). Maybe hoping this one hits in 2009 is wishful thinking. Fox Searchlight’s docket is probably already full, no?
