Daniel Radcliffe & Dane DeHaan Reteam For ‘College Republicans’

Given Hollywood’s focus more on things that go boom and sell toys, and less on dramas with human beings, it’s probably not a total shock that “College Republicans” hasn’t gained much traction since landing on the 2010 Black List. At one point Richard Linklater was attached to direct, with Shia LaBeouf and Paul Dano linked to lead roles at various times, without anything ever coalescing. But the project is taking another swing at getting made, this time with a pair of compelling actors taking the starring roles.

Kill Your Darlings” pals Dane DeHaan and Daniel Radcliffe, will once again go to school together on the big screen. And that’s not all. They’re bringing their ‘Darlings’ director John Krokidas along to helm. Penned by Wes Jones, the film is based on the true story of Karl Rove (DeHaan), who, under the guidance of Lee Atwater (Radcliffe), runs a dirty campaign for for the College Republican Chairman in 1973. So, all serious and political right? Wrong. The Wrap describes the film as a “buddy comedy,” though we reckon the tone will be pretty arch.

As always, financing is still coming together, but the hope is to get this rolling in front of cameras in November—though this also depends on scheduling. So it’s a lot of “we’ll see” at this moment, but with DeHaan and Radcliffe taking on two of the more infamous figures in American politics, they could be names to get this one made.
