Tom Hardy Says Additional Filming On 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Not Reshoots But New Material

Tom Hardy Mad Max Fury Road

You would think that as the potential kickoff to a whole new trilogy of films, there would be more coming out of the Warner Bros. camp about the status of “Mad Max: Fury Road.” But even though filming started a year ago this month, there has been near silence around the movie with no release date set, no teaser posters or official stills except for this the one above. But with production on the movie still ongoing, a couple more details have emerged.

Back in September, it was revealed that three weeks of additional shooting were scheduled to take place this month in Sydney. So is the movie in trouble? Well, according to Tom Hardy they’re not reshooting anything, but simply continuing to build on what has already been completed. “[Mad Max’s] great. It’s a big piece,” he recently told Flicks And The City (via Mad Max). “I’m off out there next week to do some re-shoots—well, not re-shoots actually, we’re doing more. Building—building more Mad Max, there’s even more spectacular.”

We’ll see what this all means eventually, though considering the production got behind schedule almost from the start, we reckon WB is waiting to see how it all turns out before committing to a release date (and thus avoid reports of trouble or “delays” on the movie). It’s a smart move and clearly they’re invested in making sure it’s done right, but will we see this in 2014? WB will need to figure that out soon.

Meanwhile, reports have been surfacing of late—in Australian trade Inside Film and today’s THR AFM Daily—that original Max, Mel Gibson, would be making a cameo or have a role as a character known simply as Drifter. However, we reached out to reps for the actor who have denied his involvement in the film.

That’s all for now, but surely much more to come from this tentpole on the horizon.
