Michael Shannon, Udo Kier and Willem Dafoe Join Werner Herzog 'My Son'

The Werner Herzog directed, David Lynch… produced (?), “My Son, My Son,” now evidently titled, “My Son, My Son, What Have You Done?,” now has a cast. According to Hollywood Elsewhere, the leads of the film are now Michael Shannon, Udo Kier and Willem Dafoe and will start shooting this month or in January. Then the production will take a hiatus and then resume again in March. Does that mean someone has to lose weight in a couple months or something? That’s what usually happens when a production shoots and then stops again, no?

In May of this year, the project was described as a “murderous horror-drama” written by Herzog and his longtime assistant director Herbert Golder and loosely based on the true story of a disturbed man who acts out a Sophocles-like play in his mind and kills his mother. The project was said to be low-budget and shot in a digital video guerrilla-style (i.e., it could look fug like “Inland Empire” or just total ass). Back then David Lynch’s involvement was announced, but in what capacity exactly still remains a bit of a mystery.

Herzog was supposd to shoot the Victorian-era drama “The Piano Tuner” for Focus Features this fall, but it seems like that date came and went since none of us have heard anything about it.

Michael Shannon is probably going to start getting tons of work because of his amazing supporting turn in “Revolutionary Road.”
