Watch: First Trailer For 'Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit' Starring Chris Pine & Keira Knightley

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

Though Tom Clancy sadly passed way yesterday (check out feature on his best and worst films), marketing campaigns are usually plotted out long in advance, and while some raised an eyebrow at Paramount‘s supposed insensitivity at dropping the first poster for the movie as the news of the author’s death was circulating, it was probably just a bad coincidence. And nevertheless, the campaign must soldier on — now aided somewhat with Clancy’s passing making headlines around the world — and the first trailer for the terribly titled “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” is here.

Chris Pine joins a lineage that includes Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck in playing Jack Ryan, in what seems to be an origin story of sorts. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film will follow a pre-CIA Jack Ryan, a financial analyst who discovers his boss (played by Branagh doing double duty) has plans to disrupt the American economy. Though we doubt his plan involves Republicans forcing a complete and total government shutdown. Anyway, a decent supporting cast is in place with Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner in the mix, but do you think this can stand alongside “Hunt For Red October” or “Patriot Games” as the best Clancy-verse movies?

“Jack Ryan” opens on Christmas Day, though word is bubbling that it might get pushed to January 2014 to make room for Martin Scorsese‘s “The Wolf Of Wall Street.” Watch below.
