Wherefore Art Thou? Behold A Fair Clip From 'Romeo & Juliet' And Forsooth, New Images Too

Ah, what forbidden young love burns! Such tragedy! In an era where reality show relationships and celebrity couplings seem to weigh on the population with more resonance that their actual connections with real people, how will Shakespeare‘s classic of doomed romance be received? We can’t imagine tweenagers swarming to this latest period attempt at “Romeo & Juliet,” especially without the pop-frenzy heat of Baz Luhrmann‘s gonzo version from 1996. And Douglas Booth isn’t exactly Leonardo DiCaprio.

Anyway, this version features rising actress Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet, wooed by Romeo, while their family and friends worry and whisper concerned asides as the two kids have no idea what fate awaits. We suppose the selling point here is that “Downton Abbey” dude Julian Fellowes wrote the script, but it’s not like this is taking huge liberties with the source material, as far as we know. It’ll all be about the presentation. This clip doesn’t exactly fire us up, but again, we might be a couple of decades too old.

“Romeo & Juliet” opens on October 11th just in time for Halloween? Canadian Thanksgiving? Watch below followed by a ton of new pics.
