Sam Jackson is set to star as Sho’nuff, the ego-driven Harlem shogun in a remake of the 1985 cult “The Last Dragon.” The film centers on a young martial arts student and his quest through the New York streets as he attempts to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment.
The role will be a stretch for Jackson, as his character is known to scream such questions at his gang as, “Am I the baddest mofo lowdown around this town?” How will he manage to get into such a role?
The original film received only lukewarm reviews from critics, with Roger Ebert describing the film as “a great near-miss.” But was commercial success, pulling in $26 million at the box office. It has since become a cult classic. Columbia president, Doug Belgrad, who announced the project is confident that the film will preserve what made the original popular, “They will capture everything that people love about the original while also bringing a fresh edge to the remake.” Jackson in another starring role as his cartoonish self…fuck, we give up.
