While it seemed that the matter was finally settled last month, it looks we’re still playing our favorite game: trying to guess who will direct “Bond 24.” Though it seemed that Sam Mendes finally came to peace with heading back into the world of Bond, it appears that a final decision still hasn’t been reached.
Speaking with Hey U Guys at the premiere of his stage adaptation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Mendes offered up this morsel regarding the “Skyfall” follow-up: “In answer to the question you’re going to ask, I don’t know yet. I’m in discussion over the ‘B’ word and I won’t make any decision until [‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’] is open. It’s taken a long time to get this open and this has been my focus.”
To recap, Mendes initially said the thought of directing another Bond movie made him “physically ill,” other big-time directors — including weird names like Nicolas Winding Refn — were tossed around as possibilities until Mendes was seemingly back on for not one but two Bond movies. Now we’re right back where we started, with Mendes and the “Bond” producers still in a stalemate. Given that the Mendes directed the first billion dollar Bond we’d imagine that the producers are game to wait for Mendes to come around. In the meantime, place your bets below on who ends up getting the gig.
