…because. That's the answer to your query of "Why?" Because Sony has a movie title in their library, because some executive watched it on cable late one night after going to a Hollywood party and not scoring, because somebody from upstairs needed an idea to bring to a meeting. And thus, Brian Helgeland's 2001 Heath Ledger-starring movie "A Knight's Tale" will now become a weekly series on ABC. Hooray.
"Battlestar Galactica" developer/executive producer Ron Moore is spearheading the endeavor over at ABC that won't stray too far from the actual movie. The comedic fantasy centers on a brash young man who blusters his way into knighthood with his raw skills and anachronistic soundtrack, and the plan is to more or less do the same here. It's "Glee" meets "Game of Thrones"! Okay, we made that up, but we're pretty sure somebody said that in the pitch meeting. Moore will write the script, and that's about where it stands at the moment.
We're probably being too cynical, and hell, this could turn out to be really good. Or not. If anything, maybe we'll just go back and watch the original movie. [Deadline]
