A24 Public Access Will Screen "Moonlight," "Lady Bird," & Other Films On Billboards Across The Country

For a while, A24 had been teasing a new project that seemed like it could be a streaming service. The indie distributor seemed like it was poised to have a go at the Streaming Wars with its own brand of critically-acclaimed low-budget films. However, today the plan was officially announced and A24 Public Access isn’t a streaming service, in the most traditional sense at least.

A24 has announced a new Public Access promotion where the company will stream a curated selection of films in specific cities across the US on specific days. However, these won’t be available on your computer screen. Instead, if you live in one of the selected cities, you’ll have a chance to watch an A24 film outdoors on a pre-selected billboard. Yep, a real billboard in a city will show “Lady Bird,” among other films over the next several weeks.

Here are the selected cities, dates, and films:

“Lady Bird” – Sacramento, CA (7/20)
“The Bling Ring” – Van Nuys, CA (7/27)
“The Witch” – Ossipee, NH (8/6)
“Good Time” – Queens, NY (8/10)
“The Spectacular Now” – Athens, GA (8/17)
“Moonlight” – Miami, FL (8/24)

Why those cities and films? A24 says it is “bringing movies back home to the places that inspired them.” In the case of “Moonlight,” for example, the billboard is only a few blocks away from Moonlight Way, a part of the road that was renamed after the release of the film due to its impact. “Moonlight” was the Oscar winner for Best Picture in 2018.

If you live in one of those cities, and you’re interested in watching a quality film for free, you can visit the A24 website for more details on exactly which billboard will host the event.
