So, concept is simple: the White House comes under attack and a Secret Service agent (or a former Secret Service agent) needs to come in, knock heads and save the day. And it seems this idea was good enough to spawn two rival movies that are racing to win audiences: "White House Down" and "Olympus Has Fallen." White House Exhausted yet?
While Roland Emmerich has been busy casting for 'Down' with Channing Tatum, Maggie Gyllenhaal and probably Jamie Foxx, Antoine Fuqua is turning the wheels on 'Fallen.' With Gerard Butler already on board as the guy who saves the day, Aaron Eckhart is on board to play the President Of The United States who finds his Oval Office taken over by terrorists. Frankly, Eckhart seems like a guy who could knock a few heads himself, so these will have to be some seriously bad dues to keep him contained.
It was one thing to get two Snow White movies this year, but at least they were pretty wildly different takes on the fairy tale. From what we know so far, these movies look exactly the same, and we're surprised lawyers haven't gotten involved yet. And while Sony has already locked a November 1, 2013 date, Millenium hasn't set release for their (probably lower budgeted) movie, but you can bet they will be trying to beat Sony into the theater. But the question is, who would you rather see save America, Tatum or Butler? Is neither an option? [Variety]
