So, the Oscar nominations is old news — hey, that's just how this crazy news cycle thing works — so we can get back to what Hollywood does best. Offer stories! Woo! So with "Godzilla" set to start shooting in March, they need to find someone to star. They tried Joseph Gordon-Levitt, considered Henry Cavill, Scoot McNairy and Caleb Landry Jones, but the offer went out to someone else.
"Kick-Ass" star Aaron Johnson now has the project to consider, but he's waiting until he sees the rewrite from Frank Darabont before he commits. Actual plot details for the movie, which is coming from "Monsters" director Gareth Edwards, are under wraps, but we presume it involves a monster rising from the sea and terrorizing a bunch of people and smashing stuff. We thought that movie was called "Pacific Rim," but we guess not. As for Johnson, casting isn't really the big factor in these kinds of movies that tend to favor spectacle anyway, so….sure, he'd be fine. Whatever.
At any rate, whether it's with Johnson or not, "Godzilla" will roar on May 16, 2014. [Deadline]
