Adam McKay Signs Overall Deal With HBO & Will Bring His Jeffrey Epstein Limited Series To The Network

If there exists a Streaming Wars whiteboard, where you keep track of all the comings and goings of A-lister producers signing massive overall exclusive deals, then it’s time to put Adam McKay on it. According to Variety, the man who has been writing, directing, and producing some of the most acclaimed projects over the last several years has signed a new exclusive, five-year deal with HBO and HBO Max.

The report claims that McKay’s first project under his new deal is the recently-announced Jeffrey Epstein limited series that the filmmaker has been working on. While not much is known about the project right now, the series is said to be based on the upcoming book about Epstein, written by Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown. But obviously that story is still being written, as a new NYTimes report claims that the now-deceased Epstein’s brother has hired a pathologist that indicated that the recent suicide was actually, perhaps, homicide.

For those not aware of the news surrounding the infamous Hollywood mogul, Jeffrey Epstein was recently arrested on multiple counts of sexually assaulting numerous underage girls. The story was expected to be the first step in a major investigation into Epstein’s inner circle of other powerful folks that could have been linked to these crimes. However, the man was found dead from an apparent suicide only weeks after his arrest.

Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming, said, “We are delighted to continue our longtime collaboration with Adam McKay with this new deal. Adam is a uniquely talented director and producer, and we are looking forward to working with him and the team at Hyperobject on many projects to come.”

“We’ve worked with Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Len Amato and the team at HBO for years on shows like ‘Eastbound & Down,’ ‘FOD Presents,’ and ‘Succession,’ said McKay. “They’re fearless, extremely clued in and know how to frame and present a show like no one else.”

In addition to this project, McKay has had a number of successful collaborations with HBO. As mentioned, he’s produced “Eastbound & Down,” “Succession,” and just wrapped production on the pilot episode of the upcoming series based on the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers.
