If you’re James Franco, it appears that movie projects are low hanging fruit that you can pluck at a whim and not only is his basket full, it’s fucking overflowing.
The Franco, as we like to call him, recently hit Sundance with his concept piece “Three’s Company: The Drama” which Vulture described as “a sitcom-deconstruction-cum-multimedia-installation” that featured Franco and company performing “an episode of Three’s Company sans laugh track (and with the sex jokes and desperation amped up), then projected that footage on all four walls of a small room filled with wicker furniture that itself re-created the sitcom’s main apartment set.” Check out the video of the performance below. And as The Franco now recounts, the rights holders to the sitcom were so taken with what he did thay they want to work with him.
Speaking TV Guide (via Vulture) the actor/soap opera star/student/artist/awards show host/director/writer revealed, “When we were accepted to Sundance, we didn’t have the series rights, but then the Three’s Company estate contacted us. At first they were opposed to it, but then they saw what we did (a startling dramatic take) and loved it. So they are now talking to us about developing a Three’s Company feature film and an off-Broadway play.”
Actually, a “Three’s Company” movie sounds just dumb enough to be interesting but don’t expect it hit theaters until, oh, 2071. It looks like The Franco is gonna need a bigger basket for 2011 for all the stuff he’s going to be plucking from the Hollywood development tree.
