Jesus, so much for Bill Murray being anti-“Ghostbusters” or whatever his stance originally was. Perhaps it was that the long-resistant Murray just didn’t want to appear in a proper “Ghostbusters" sequel as Peter Venkman, and that plan was mostly squashed when original “Ghostbuster” Harold Ramis passed away two years ago.
Ramis passing changed everything for the “Ghostbusters” world, and instead of trying to square peg a “Ghostbusters 3” into existence, Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, the main torchbearers of the “Ghostbusters” series, decided to hand it off. Now Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters,” starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and more, lands in theaters in the summer of 2016.

Even though Feig has said that his upcoming “Ghostbusters” won’t connect to the original series, or won’t even reference it — in fact, it’s starting over and pretending those films don’t exist — the original “Ghostbusters” will cameo. Aykroyd already revealed his cameo over Twitter recently, and THR reports that Bill Murray will make an appearance too.
There are no details on who Murray will play or what we’ll do, but we presume, like Akyroyd, it’ll be small cameo. Murray was always up for the idea of a new “Ghostbusters” starring females and he even had several suggestions of actresses he liked (the film eventually landed two of them), so perhaps his appearance is another way for the Murricane to co-sign on the project.
Here’s Aykroyd talking about the new film below, plus the magnetic star power of his friend Bill Murray. “Ghostbusters” just recently changed its release date and now arrives a week earlier on July 15, 2016.
