There have been countless films and TV series focused on the life and career of the “King of Rock & Roll,” Elvis Presley. But it’s safe to say that none are going to be quite like the upcoming animated Netflix series titled, “Agent King.”
The streaming service just announced that “Archer” writer Mike Arnold will write-produce-showrun the upcoming animated comedy series “Agent King,” which will focus on Elvis’ untold life as a superspy. That’s right, folks. Netflix is going to give you an animated series about Elvis as the American James Bond. The series is described as “an animated adult action-comedy featuring Elvis Presley as a covert government agent who fights to keep America safe while also maintaining his cover as the King of Rock & Roll.”
And if your immediate thought is to hate Netflix for having the audacity to tarnish the King’s legacy by adding this over-the-top, ridiculous fictional story to his history, then don’t worry — Elvis’ widow Priscilla Presley is one of the co-creators of the series, along with John Eddie. So, yes, if there wasn’t any involvement from the Presley family, there could be charges of bad taste lobbed at Netflix, but it appears that at least his former wife is on board with this incredibly strange series.
While we don’t know much about the series outside of the description, it’s telling that Netflix has brought on someone with experience on “Archer” to steer the “Agent King” series. For those that are fans of “Archer,” you can see just how that style of humor could work with something as ridiculous as a series about Elvis being a superspy.
Let’s just put this one in the “very curious/mildly excited” category.
