Oh you, know, no big deal, just another day, another legendary actor joining the already-stacked cast of a Quentin Tarantino movie. The “Reservoir Dogs” filmmaker’s latest, “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” is in production now and keeps adding members to its cast. The latest is 78-year-old icon Al Pacino who has never worked with QT before.

Pacino will play Marvin Shwarz, the Hollywood agent of Leonardo DiCaprio‘s character in the film who is a former western TV series star struggling in a Hollywood he no longer recognizes. Brad Pitt co-stars as the actor’s buddy and longtime stunt double. The movie is set in late 1960s Los Angeles around the time the Charles Manson cult killed the pregnant actress Sharon Tate, a period that many have marked as the end of the hippie age in the United States.
Yesterday Damian Lewis (playing iconic actor Steve McQueen), Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Clifton Collins Jr, Keith Jefferson and Nicholas Hammond joined the film in supporting roles. Before that, the cast had already featured Burt Reynolds, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth and Margot Robbie, who will play Sharon Tate.
6/8/18 Update: Variety adds today that James Marsden and “American Housewife” actress Julia Butters have joined the cast as well.
Tarantino has described “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” as the closest he’s come to making another “Pulp Fiction”-esque film, presumably meaning a big ensemble in a Los Angeles sprawl with little in the way of a traditional plot.

Pacino will be seen next sometime in early 2019 in Martin Scorsese‘s “The Irishman” on Netflix. “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” will be released worldwide on August 9, 2019, a similar date to Tarantino’s successful, aforementioned “Inglourious Basterds.” It will be the first post-Weinstein Tarantino release.
