It seems the most interesting things about “The Legend Of Tarzan,” are the behind-the-scenes dealings as the picture was made. We found out earlier this week that producer Jerry Weintraub had eyeballed Olympian Michael Phelps for the lead role…before he was so thoroughly turned off by the athlete’s “Saturday Night Live” hosting duties, he cooled on the idea completely. And now comes word that ‘Tarzan’ was a bit more spicy at one time than the final version that hit the big screen.
David Yates has revealed that he had filmed a scene that featured a kiss between Christoph Waltz‘s villain and Alexander Skarsgard‘s hero (while the latter is unconscious), but snipped it because the tone of the sequence didn’t flow with the rest of the picture.
“We pared it back because it was almost too much. It was this really odd, odd moment when Christoph kisses him,” the director told The Times. “We loved it at the time. But early test audiences were perplexed by it and in the end it just felt too clever and overworked.”
But it wasn’t just Waltz’s baddie who found himself stirred by Tarzan’s wondrous six-pack — so did Jane, played by Margot Robbie. And Yates teased there were some more “primal” romance scenes between Skarsgard and Robbie. Oh, what could’ve been.
The chastened “The Legend Of Tarzan” is now playing. [via Yahoo]
