If you’ve been to the movies at all in the past ten years you’ve heard
at least one of Alexandre Desplat‘s scores. The French composer’s filmography ranges from scoring Oscar-bait Brit bio-dramas (“The Queen,” “The King’s Speech,”) to the last two installments of a beloved fantasy series (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” & ‘Part 2‘) to Malick (“The Tree of Life“), Wes Anderson (“Fantastic Mr. Fox,” “Moonrise Kingdom“) to last year’s Best Picture “Argo.” Along the way, he has garnered five Oscar nominations but no win as yet. Now, in keeping with the composer’s eclectic track record, Legendary has signed Desplat to tackle the upcoming “Godzilla” remake and we can’t wait to hear what comes of it.
Although we have been wary of this latest reboot of the
monster-rising-from-the-sea classic from the get-go (Another remake? Did
ya’ll forget the 1998 bomb? Yada, yada, yada…), this latest news is a
glimmer of hope. For the past two years or so, our team has been wading our way through so much “Godzilla” news; from some “Pacific Rim“-related rumors to supposed infighting between producers to the likes of Juliette Binoche and Ken Watanabe joining the cast. Helmed by “Monsters” director Gareth Edwards, “Godzilla” started production back in March and is sticking to their latest March 16, 2014 release date. What do you think?
