That shit hole franchise series, “Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem,” seemed to wreck the chances of Ridley Scott ever going back to “Aliens.” The film (which is mindnumbling awful; you should be ashamed if you enjoyed it) is set on Earth and that was Scott’s plan for a potential “Alien 5” with Sigourney Weaver.
So that blew it all to hell, right? Maybe not, Weaver recently talked to MTV and said there still might be a chance of the further chronicles of Ellen Ripley, the bad news it might not be with those acid-for-blood H.R. Geiger-designed aliens.
Weaver confirmed that her and the director discussed the possibility. “Both of us feel a kind of commitment to that woman. He’s as much responsible for who she is as I am.” However, they both realize that “AVP” sort of shit the bed for the series which may mean a new direction for the story, perhaps sans Aliens?
“We’d have to go back to the drawing board on [the alien],” she said. “Ridley said that right away when we first talked about [a fifth film].What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.”
Even David Fincher’s “Alien 3” kind of sucked (sorry, revisionists and Fincher fanatics), but the first two films are still haunting and thrilling (yes, even James Cameron’s which is actually excellent), so while normally we loath sequels that go past the threequel mark, we’d almost love to see what these two could come up with together.
