'Alien: Covenant' Trailer Gets Recut 'Prometheus' Style

On Christmas Day, the elves at 20th Century Fox delivered a very red-band trailer for “Alien: Covenant,” and after a preceding week of hype and anticipation and teases, the result was distinctly underwhelming. I don’t know about you, but something felt a bit off in the promo for the upcoming movie, whether it was uninspired riffs on franchise touchstones (“How about instead of a chest-burster, a back-burster!?”) and/or material that felt ripped right out of much schlockier horror movies (that shower scene is really cornball, and new rule: no more leaning over face first into creepy space plants/eggs in “Alien” movies). Well, someone has tried to make something a bit more exciting.

A fan re-cut version of the trailer, done in the style of the first “Prometheus” teaser (and using the same music) has landed online, and it leans much more on imagery instead of dialogue, and cuts out lots of material, too. The result is something that’s arguably more effective with less being shown, and feels a bit more part of the fabric of the “Alien” universe. But maybe that’s just me.
