Alison Brie & Dan Stevens To Star In Dave Franco's Directorial Debut 'The Rental'

While older brother James seems to hog a majority of the spotlight, Dave Franco is out there making a name for himself with strong films and interesting roles. Having appeared in films like “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “6 Balloons,” and “The Disaster Artist,” the younger Franco might have eclipsed his older brother as the more interesting of the duo. And he plans to make his case as the best Franco with his upcoming directorial debut.

According to Deadline, Franco has agreed to co-write and direct “The Rental,” which is being described as a horror/thriller. And joining him for his inaugural directorial effort are none other than Alison Brie and Dan Stevens. Hey, if you need lead actors for a debut film, you could do far worse than the Golden Globe-nominated Brie and the SAG Award-winning Stevens.

Franco said he “couldn’t be more excited about partnering with Black Bear and to be working with such an amazing group of actors for my directorial debut.”

“The Rental” is said to be a horror/thriller that follows two couples who rent a vacation home to have a celebratory weekend getaway. But naturally, things don’t go as planned.

Franco is co-writing the film with Joe Swanberg, who is a bit of an accomplished filmmaker himself. Swanberg is best known for his litany of indie films that rely heavily on improvisation and is often regarded as one of the Godfathers of the infamous Mumblecore film movement.
