No, we still have no word on an official release date for the first “Game of Thrones” spinoff series, “The House of the Dragon.” As it is in production now, it’s likely not going to premiere until well into 2022. However, that isn’t stopping HBO from moving forward on the development of more ‘Thrones’ material, as yet another spinoff, “10,000 Ships,” has landed a writer.
According to Deadline, HBO has brought on Amanda Segel to write the proposed “Game of Thrones” spinoff titled “10,000 Ships.” Much like ‘Dragon,’ “10,000 Ships” takes place well before the time of ‘Thrones,’ roughly 1,000 years to be exact, and tells the story of warrior queen Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars, who travel from Essos to Dorne to escape the wrath of the Valyrian Freehold during the Second Spice War. Unless you’re steeped in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” lore, you probably just recognize the name Nymeria as the name given by Arya Stark to her dire wolf during Season 1 of “Game of Thrones.”

Segel is probably best known for her work as a writer on TV series such as “Without a Trace,” “Person of Interest,” and the short-lived series, “The Mist.” It’s unclear how much involvement Martin has with “10,000 Ships,” as he is listed as one of the co-creators of the upcoming “House of the Dragon.” Though, you have to assume he is involved in some capacity, as this is all based on his world.

“10,000 Ships” is one of a few different ‘Thrones’ spinoffs that are currently in development at HBO. As is very much known at this point, the premium network isn’t taking chances with screwing up the ‘Thrones’ franchise and is going the route of developing a ton of spinoffs and seeing which come together in the best way. In fact, we’ve seen one spinoff actually film a pilot before it was canceled. So, just because “10,000 Ships” has a writer, it’s a long, long way from coming to your TV screen.
