Common sense would dictate that a network or streaming service would keep a series that is nominated for 11 Emmys and gotten nothing but incredible reviews around for as long as possible. Unfortunately for Amazon, in the case of “Fleabag,” just as the series is peaking, it’s already done. But Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke is still hopeful that writer-creator-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge is open to the idea of more episodes.
Recently, Salke appeared at a TCA event (via Deadline) and discussed the streaming service’s hit comedy series, which recently became one of the most-nominated shows at the 2019 Emmys. And while it appears that Amazon is definitely open to the idea of another batch of “Fleabag” episodes, it isn’t up to Salke or anyone else at the streamer.
“I’m basically her stalker,” said Salke. “Anything Phoebe wants to do, nothing would make us happier to bring another season of her show. Anything she wants to do. I’m forever the optimist.”
It’s a shame that “Fleabag” is seemingly gone forever after only two seasons. Of course, British TV series have a long history of ending well before viewers grow tired of it, but still, it feels as if people were only just now coming around to Waller-Bridge’s comedy. And Salke seems to agree.
“In a world of peak TV, there’s so many choices,” she said. “It takes time for some of these show to find their path. We knew we had something special, we revere Phoebe and she’s an incredible talent.”
While it seems like wishful thinking for a Season 3 of “Fleabag,” at least fans can take solace in the fact that Amazon is just as hopeful as they are. However, it would appear that any additional episodes would have to come from Waller-Bridge, herself. And at this point, it would seem as if she’s already put “Fleabag” behind her.
Both seasons of “Fleabag” are available now on Amazon Prime Video.
