Amazon Studios Boss Is "Thrilled" With 'The Boys' Viewership & Says The Superhero Series Is One Of The "Most-Watched" On The Platform

Debuting with seemingly very little fanfare, outside of the diehard comic book community, Amazon’s latest original TV series, “The Boys,” has apparently not only become a sleeper hit for the streaming service, but one of the biggest TV hits Amazon has seen, period.

Recently, the Head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, revealed that “The Boys” is greatly surpassing expectations and the company couldn’t be happier.

“We are thrilled that ‘The Boys’ has surpassed our predictions for viewing in its first two weeks, and has become one of our most-watched Amazon Original series by our Prime Video customers,” she revealed (via Forbes).

It’s a good thing that viewers are turning up for the superhero series. You see, even before “The Boys” premiered on Amazon, the studio ordered an eight-episode Season 2. It appears that the gamble is paying off as production has already begun on the next batch of episodes and Amazon can rush it out in fairly quick order to ensure that the momentum continues.

And to describe Amazon’s latest series as a “gamble” is putting it mildly. The series follows the exploits of the biggest superheroes in the world (who are run by a Disney-like megacorporation) and the titular group of vigilantes that aim to take them down. Why would The Boys want to take down the beloved Seven? Well, what the general public doesn’t realize is that these “Justice League”/”Avengers” knock-off characters are evil, deviant, and overall, just assholes. And “The Boys” doesn’t hold back pushing the limits of Amazon Studios’ standards and practices division by showing all that in graphic detail.

In addition to “The Boys” bringing in huge viewership numbers, the IMDB rating system seems to point to the fact that those who are watching it are really enjoying the new series from writer-producer Eric Kripke.

On IMDB, “The Boys” carries an impressive 8.9 average rating, besting every other television series on Amazon Prime Video. Yes, even the multiple Emmy Award-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which has an 8.y rating, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’sFleabag” and its 8.6. While not the most scientific and accurate representation of quality, the IMDB rating system does give an overall view of what series are being enjoyed by viewers the most. And even if the quality of the superhero series isn’t up to snuff compared to the aforementioned, award-winning series, the IMDB rating does show that people generally really dig it.

You can stream “The Boys” right now on Amazon Prime Video.
