Everyone likes to be the cool kid, right? So, if you want to impress your friends and be the person who says, “Oh, I knew about that before it was popular…” then you need to pay attention — Amazon has decided to adapt “Paper Girls” as a new live-action series.
According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has given a series commitment to the live-action adaptation of the “Paper Girls” comic book series from creators Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang. Why is this destined to be the new TV hotness? Well, “Paper Girls” is basically combining the “kids on a bike” aspect of “Stranger Things,” but with an all-female cast and a big-time sci-fi twist. If done correctly, Amazon is looking at the next “Stranger Things” but with an actual incredible story to back it up. (Sorry, “Stranger Things” fans, but you have to admit, the story is a bit weak.)
“Paper Girls” follows a group of young newspaper delivery girls in 1988. They are dealing with all the things that young girls do during the late-‘80s, like bullies, parents, and smoking cigarettes. But that all changes on Halloween, when the girls find themselves in the middle of a massive battle between time-traveling factions. Now, the girls must battle to save the world by traveling all throughout history.
And to sweeten the deal even more, “Toy Story 4” co-writer Stephany Folsom is on board to pen the adaptation.
